Adtran TA5000 chassis parts keep an installed Total Access 5000 shelf in service. When a fan, controller or line card fails, the fastest fix is the exact replacement, not a new platform.
In short, this guide covers the shelf, the System Controller Module, cooling and legacy DS1 and DSL cards. It also lists every part number in this family that Silverback supplies.
What makes up an Adtran TA5000 chassis
The 1187001F2 is the Total Access 5000 23-Inch ANSI Chassis, the main multi-slot shelf of the platform. In fact, every other part in this guide lives in or behind that shelf. So it pays to know what your shelf already holds before you order.
Overall, a working shelf needs a controller, fans, switch modules, line or access cards and rear I/O panels. For switch modules and OLT cards, see our guide to TA5000 OLT and switch modules.
The TA5000 System Controller Module
The 1187010G2 is the second generation System Controller Module, often called the SCM G2. It handles shelf control and management, so a failed SCM is a serious event.
This SCM left the catalog in May 2018. Still, many shelves run it today, which makes a tested spare worth keeping on hand. Because it is a legacy part, order it by exact part number rather than by description.
Cooling for the Adtran TA5000 chassis
Fans are moving parts, so they tend to wear out before the cards do. That is especially true in warm huts and cabinets.
The 1187080G1 is the standard fan module for the 23-inch TA5000 shelf. In addition, the 1187080G3 is the High-Flow Fan Module, and Adtran's current ANSI chassis ordering information includes it in the SM40 and SM200 chassis kits. So if you plan an SM40 or SM200 upgrade, check whether your shelf needs the high-flow fan as well.
Meanwhile, the compact Total Access 5004 uses its own fan, the 1187094F1. Order it by part number, since the 5004 and the 23-inch shelf use different fan modules.
Rear I/O panels for the Adtran TA5000 chassis
Copper line cards connect to outside cabling through rear I/O panels, so these panels matter as much as the cards. For example, the 1187400G1 LMIO2-CH64 is a bridged rear panel with dual 64-pin champ connectors. The 1187434F1 appears in parts listings as the AMIO2 48-Port V2C, so confirm its fit with your shelf records before you order.
Legacy line cards for the Adtran TA5000 chassis
Many TA5000 shelves still carry copper services next to fiber. These cards keep those services running while you plan the move to fiber.
DSL access cards
The 1187120L1 is the TA5000 Combo VDSL2 24-Port Access Module. In other words, it delivers voice plus data on each of its 24 VDSL2 ports. For older T1 style circuits, the 1187310L1 HDSL4 8-Port Line Module still turns up in many shelves.
DS1 and voice gateway cards
The 1187800L1 DS1 Voice Gateway has 32 DS1 interfaces. It also carries GR-303 or TR-08 voice signaling over Ethernet to TA5000 RPOTS and Combo cards. In addition, the 1187801L1 is a 32-port DS1 line module for T1 services.
How to keep an older Adtran TA5000 chassis running
First of all, record the part number and revision of every card in each shelf. Then keep at least one spare SCM and fan module per group of sites, because those failures affect the whole shelf.
Also, test spares before you need them. A spare that sits in a closet for years may not boot when an outage hits. For that reason, Silverback tests every unit before it ships, so your spare works on arrival.
Finally, plan for the long term. Many operators use spare TA5000 parts to bridge the gap until a fiber or Combo PON upgrade, instead of replacing the whole shelf at once.
New or used Adtran TA5000 chassis parts
Most parts in this family are legacy items, so used and refurbished units are often the most practical choice. Silverback supplies new and used Adtran TA5000 chassis parts, tested before they ship. So ask for new or used condition on each line of your quote.
When you finally retire a shelf, Silverback buys it back. We also provide certified ITAD under R2v3, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001. See our decommissioning checklist for planning tips, or visit Adtran's official site for current product news.
