Ericsson Site Power, Cooling and Mounting Hardware: PSU, PDU, BFU, Fans and Rails

Ericsson site power and cooling hardware in a cabinet

Ericsson site power hardware keeps radios and basebands running, and a single failed power part can take a whole site down. Power supplies, PDUs, fuse units and fans rarely get attention until one fails. Then they matter more than anything else on the site.

This guide covers the Ericsson site power, cooling and mounting parts we supply. It explains what each part does, where it fits and what to check before you order. Silverback supplies new and used units, tested before they ship.

How Ericsson site power is laid out

Most radio sites run on 48 V DC, while batteries provide backup. First of all, AC power from the grid feeds power supply units, which convert it to DC. After that, power distribution units send DC to the radios, basebands and other gear.

Battery fuse units sit between the batteries and the rest of the site, so they act as a safety point. They protect the DC system when something goes wrong. Meanwhile, fans keep the cabinet cool, so heat does not cut the life of the electronics.

Ericsson site power supplies and PDUs

The parts below keep Ericsson site power flowing from the grid and batteries to the radio equipment. Each one has its own part number, so order by the label rather than the type.

PSU AC 03

The PSU AC 03 (BML161184/1) is an AC power supply unit for Ericsson radio sites. In other words, it converts grid power for the DC gear in the cabinet. When a PSU fails, the site leans on its batteries until they run flat.

PDU 01 04 and PDU 03 02

Ericsson sites use power distribution units to split DC power across the equipment. For example, we supply the PDU 01 04 (BMG980336/7) and the PDU 03 02 (BGM136106/2). Because the two are different models, match the model and part number on your label.

BFU 01 03

The BFU 01 03 (BMG980410/1) is a battery fuse unit, so it guards the DC side of the site. It protects and distributes DC power from the site batteries, and one listing rates it at 48 V, 200 A. So check the rating on your unit before you swap it.

Cooling: the 6318/19 HPU fan unit

Heat is a quiet threat on radio sites, especially during hot summers. For example, the fan unit BKV301216/130 serves the 6318/19 HPU. Fan suppliers match it to a Delta EHB1748EHG 48 V DC fan, which helps when you compare spares.

A failing fan often shows up as rising cabinet temperature or alarms before anything else breaks. Therefore, swap fans early rather than wait for a radio to overheat.

Mounting and GPS hardware

Mounting parts look simple, but the wrong rail can hold up an install for days. For instance, the ERS rail 1100 mm (SEF901305/1100) is a mounting rail for Ericsson Radio System units, and one listing ties it to the Radio 2217.

For MINI-LINK sites, the SXK1251224/1 is a stand-alone mounting kit for the PSU AC 02 power supply. In addition, the GRU 04 (NCD90165/1) is a site GPS unit, often ordered with GPS mounts, splitters and GNSS antennas. Before you plan new radios, see Ericsson's RAN pages for the current lineup.

How to choose Ericsson site power spares

Before anything else, read the label. Power parts often look alike, yet a PDU 01 04 and a PDU 03 02 are different units. So order by the full part number, slash included.

Then check the ratings. For instance, a fuse unit must match the battery system it protects. Also confirm which cabinet or unit the part serves, such as the 6318/19 HPU for the fan unit.

Finally, order mounting kits and rails with the radio or PSU. That way the crew has everything on the truck when they reach the site.

Building a spares kit for Ericsson site power

Ericsson site power and cooling faults can take a site down just as fast as a radio fault. That is why a smart spares kit holds PSUs, fans and fuse units as well as radios. In short, keep one of each type for the cabinets you run most.

For radio spares, see our Radio System remote radio guide and our RBS 6000 spares guide. Together with this list, they cover most of what a live site needs.

New vs used, and buyback

Ericsson site power and mounting parts are a natural fit for tested used stock. They match the part number on site and cost less than new. Silverback tests used units before they ship, and you can ask for new or used condition.

When you retire a site, Silverback buys back power, cooling and radio hardware. We run ITAD under R2v3, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, so retired gear gets a responsible end of life. Learn more in our guide to a sustainable asset lifecycle.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a battery fuse unit do on an Ericsson site?

It protects and distributes DC power from the site batteries. For example, the BFU 01 03, part BMG980410/1, does this job.

Are the PDU 01 04 and PDU 03 02 interchangeable?

No. They are different models with different part numbers, so match the label on your unit.

Which fan fits the 6318/19 HPU?

The fan unit BKV301216/130 serves the 6318/19 HPU. Also, fan suppliers match it to a Delta EHB1748EHG 48 V DC fan.

What is the GRU 04?

The GRU 04, part NCD90165/1, is a GPS unit for Ericsson sites. Operators often order it with GPS mounts, splitters and GNSS antennas.

Do you test used Ericsson site power parts?

Yes. Silverback tests used units before they ship, and you can ask for new or used condition.
